Gold Coast United chairman Clive Palmer caused raised eyebrows yesterday when he spoke of a determination to not only win the A-League but do so without losing a game.

He said: "We have a unique opportunity to remain undefeated in winning the A-League and that's what our new goal is now.

"We haven't played a game yet, so we're undefeated at the moment, we don't want to lose a game in the coming season, we want to go through and win it, that's why we're in it."

Fury have taken a rather more low key approach with quiet confidence the order of the day.

Matheson believes there is room for more than one approach however and is looking forward to both clubs making a big contribution to the competition next season.

He told au.fourfourtwo.com today: "I feel sorry for their (Gold Coast) players.

"That's a lot to live up to. If it doesn't happen then it makes the fall that much harder. Who knows though. What if Clive (Palmer) is right?"

Matheson joked that he wouldn't be making such demands of his own club, not unless coach Ian Ferguson pulled on the strip again.

He said: "Well, Fergie has been talking himself up as a player so I might have to look again.

"Gold Coast are always going to have that image and I think there's room in this competition for different approaches.

"We're going about things our way here, we've still three or four players to bring in but I think we're looking forward to giving them (United) and the competition a nice old shake next year."
