The 25-year-old told national team coach Oscar Tabarez on Thursday that he will not continue training with the Charruas because he has signed for Mexican outfit Monterrey.

"He has not been cut-out. He resigned from the national team," Tabarez clarified.

Arevalo Rios did not have a place secured in the squad that will play in the Copa America in Venezuela from June 26 to July 15.

Uruguay have been drawn in Group A, alongside hosts Venezuela, Bolivia and Peru.

Uruguay's squad has now been reduced to 26 players and Tabarez will have to cut that to the official 22-man squad on June 20.
