The talented TV commentator called the Socceroos v Iran game in 1997 - an award-winning broadcast for SBS TV. He also presented a very popular football radio program on Sunday nights.

His close friend and co-presenter on radio Damian Lovelock was shocked at the news, although not surprised, he told au.fourfourtwo.com tonight.

It was Lovelock who alerted the authorities who found Paul at his home.

On a personal note, Paul was one of the nicest guys in this industry, and so talented. I respected him; I liked him and wish I got to know him better. What I knew, though, was that he loved his football.

His foreword to the "The Unofficial Beginners Guide to the History of the Australian National Soccer League" spoke volumes of his love of stats and local footy.

Paul hid his illness very well. Sadly.

And he will be sadly missed by us all.
