Indonesian media has gone into overdrive about his impending arrival, with some suggesting he may line up for Persib Bandung as early as January 13.

In a grainy, possibly doctored photo, the 30-year-old is pictured holding a No.10 Persib jersey with his name spelt wrongly, sparking a wave of excitement among the club’s fanatical supporters on social media sites.

Persib’s marketing director Muhammad Farhan was quoted in Bola News saying they were seeking a two to three year contract with the Reds out-of-favour striker with citizenship the only sticking point.

The Indonesia Super League outfit already has a full contingent of visa players.

Dutch-born van Dijk has Indonesian grandparents and for years has publicly expressed a desire to play for Indonesia – but his quest for naturalisation has been a protracted one.

Farhan said once the citizenship certificate was secured the player could sign “directly”.

The A-League’s former Golden Boot winner is in the final year of his contract with United and coach John Kosmina gave a clear indication the club would not stand in his way.

"Sergy is still talking about Indonesia so hopefully we get some sort of answer to where he's headed in the next week or so,” he told reporters recently.

"Serg has been quite open and said he wants to go for family reasons."

Persib’s next game is against Persipura Jayapura on January 13. Adelaide United refused to comment today.
