Three second-half goals - two from Siem de Jong and and one from Arjen Robben - wrapped up the victory as the Dutch were untroubled in their international friendly in Jakarta.

For Van Persie, the game marked the start of his permanent leadership of the Oranje, as he revealed afterwards that coach Louis van Gaal had handed him the armband full-time.

"I'm very honoured," he said. "On Monday the coach (Van Gaal) asked me if I wanted to be captain. It's very flattering so I accepted.

"This choice is not only for now but for a longer period."

Many observers had predicted a much bigger scoreline for the Dutch against a team ranked 170th in the world, but Van Persie felt that the heat and humidity played a part in the outcome.

"It was a tough match because of the heat and breathing was pretty heavy but, with this in mind, we did very well, I think," the Manchester United forward added.

"You can't always put pressure on your opponent. We want to play our own game and sometimes you have to let the opponent come.

"The atmosphere was very nice. I've been in these countries before with my clubs and it's always nice to see all these people react so enthusiastically."
