Veron is part of a 24-man home-based squad training under the guidance of coach Alfio Basile for three days a week in preparation for this summer's Copa America in Venezuela.

Players from that group, plus some who ply their trade abroad, will form Argentina's final squad for the tournament.

And the former Manchester United and Chelsea midfielder is looking forward to sharing the pitch with some of the top players in European football.

On the possibility of playing with Messi, Veron said: "It would be a pleasure."

And responding to questions about Juan Roman Riquelme, who has yet to announce his return to the international arena after retiring last year, Veron said: "It is always nice to have top players around oneself."

Veron is hoping to get his Copa preparations back on track after missing last month's friendly with Chile, which finished goalless, through injury.

"I have to confess I was very angry to miss that match," he said. "Now I hope to be in Venezuela."

The Copa America will be played from June 26 to July 15.
