Last season's A-League player of the year hurt his knee during the 2-0 defeat by Perth Glory and coach Ernie Merrick was hoping it didn't prove to be the worst case scenario.

"He twisted his knee and he could be lucky or it could be a serious injury," Merrick told the Herald Sun.
"At the worst it could be an ACL.

"If it's a serious tear of the ligament, he could be out for some time. If it's minor or bone bruising, he might be able to get back quickly. Hopefully, it's not too long."

However scans have revealed the injury to be minor and the Costa Rican is expected to be back in action against North Queensland Fury this weekend.

"Melbourne Victory are pleased to confirm Carlos Hernandez has been cleared of serious damage to his right knee," said a club statement today.

"The Costa Rican had scans yesterday and while there is some inflammation in the area, there was no damage to either the anterior cruciate or medial ligament.

"Carlos will be assessed over the coming days, but is considered a strong chance to play in Sunday afternoon’s clash with North Queensland Fury at AAMI Park."
