MELBOURNE Victory are set to unveil Northern Irishman Jim Magilton as their new interim coach for the remainder of the season.
The former Ipswich Town manager arrived in Melbourne on Saturday morning and is due to finalise his contract before Victory's home clash against Newcastle on Saturday night.
Magilton, 42, spent three years at Ipswich from 2006 to 2009 before a short stint with Queens Park Rangers.
Under Magilton, Ipswich finished 14th in the 2006-07 season, before seeing a push for the playoffs fall just short in the 2007-08 when they finished eighth. Magilton was sacked at Portman Road in April 2009 after falling short of the playoffs again, finishing ninth.
The ex-Northern Ireland international then lasted six months in the top job at QPR, sacked in December after a loss of form and an alleged headbutt incident .
He has spent the past six months as an assistant coach at Shamrock Rovers, who competed in the 2011-12 Europa League.
Ironically when Magilton left Ipswich in 2009, alleged ex-Victory target Roy Keane took over at Portman Road.
Victory sacked Mehmet Durakovic on Friday after just six months in the job due to the club's poor start to the season.
