MELBOURNE Victory have won an Optus SMS supporters competition and been awarded a cheque for $50,000 for their fans’ efforts.
Optus’ ‘Let Your Supporter Side Run Wild’ campaign saw fans text in their votes for their favourite A-League club over the course of last season with the blue side of Melbourne winning.
Alongside contributing to her club taking out top honours, lucky Melbourne Victory fan Francesca Lyndon-Gee also won $25,000 just for voting.
“We’d like to thank Optus for their ongoing support of football in this country,” said Melbourne Victory managing director, Richard Wilson. “To commit so much money to this campaign shows a real commitment to the game and for that we’re extremely grateful.
“There’s no underestimating the impact that this money will have on our football club. Not only will it ensure our grass roots programs such as ‘Club Victory’ and our new ‘Kickin’ around with Victory’ school clinics have further reach into the community – but it will also help to successfully grow interest in the game at all levels of competition through far greater exposure.
“Hopefully our work with Victoria’s young footballers will help inspire the next generation of Archie Thompsons.”
