MELBOURNE Victory will play a combined Victorian Premier League team in a Football Federation Victoria Bushfire Appeal Match at Olympic Park Stadium next week.
The one-off charity match on Tuesday May 12 has been coordinated by Football Federation Victoria, in conjunction with Melbourne Victory and Melbourne and Olympic Park Trust, with all proceeds to go to Victorian Bushfire affected families and communities.
The night will also include a celebrity match as a curtain-raiser to the main event. This game will feature Politicians including Victorian Minister for Sport James Merlino, as well as Victorian sporting and media identities like Shane Crawford, Sam Kekovich and NOVA's Ed Kavalee.
"Firstly we're pleased to be a part of such a terrific cause to support those families and communities affected by the bushfires" said Head Coach Ernie Merrick.
"To also work in with Football Federation Victoria, who we have an excellent relationship with and do so much for football development in this state, is pleasing."
This is just the start of a busy schedule for Melbourne Victory in the pre-season. As well as playing games against the VPL Men's team, Melbourne Victory will tour China in June playing Chinese Super League (CSL) sides Guangzhou Pharmaceutical and Tianjin Teda, followed by an International friendly against Fulham on July 11, leading into two pre-season games against Hyundai A-League teams which are still to be confirmed.
"Post the Grand Final, the boys have had a good break, but I've been very pleased with our training over the past 4 weeks and it will be good to get back into game mode as we begin to prepare for the 2009/10 season" Merrick said.
Melbourne Victory and the VPL select team will go head-to-head from 7.30pm, with the curtain raiser to begin at 6pm.
Entry is $15 for adults, $10 concession and $5 for children under 14 years old. Kids under four years old are free.
All proceeds go to bushfire affected communities.
