CENTRAL Coast Mariners will play Melbourne Victory in Tasmania in a pre-season clash next month as the A-League goes back on the road to take the sport into new areas.
It will be the fifth time Victory have used Aurora Stadium for a Pre-Season fixture but the Mariners will provide the opposition for the first time after four previous games there against Adelaide United.
It will be a return to where it all began for Mariners assistant coach Tony Walmsley.
The Manchester born mentor started out his Australian coaching career in the Tasmanian Premier League, before taking on a job with the state's under-age teams.
"I have many wonderful memories from my time in Tasmania, it's a great part of the world and they are very passionate football fans," said Walmsley.
"I actually went to Victory's trial with Adelaide last season and there were about 6,000 people making plenty of noise, so I'm sure it will be a great atmosphere.
"My dad still lives down there as well, so it's really exciting for me personally, as I'm sure it is for the team to be able to play a Pre-Season match in Launceston."
Melbourne Victory play Central Coast Mariners on Sunday, July 25 at Aurora Stadium, Launceston, kick-off at 1pm.
