Alemão’s versatility sees him also able to play in midfield or as a stopper, however he is set to fit into the right back role vacated by Alagich.

Adelaide United Coach Aurelio Vidmar said Alemão was an exciting prospect for the club and would be an excellent addition to United’s defensive stocks.

He said: “We are extremely excited about Alemao joining us, Richie was always going to be a hard player to replace which we always knew, but with the signing of Alemao we have found a player which will fill the void left by Richie."

Alemão was in United’s sights last season but the club chose to sign Cassio, as a left back was more urgently required. Cassio has played against Alemão a number of times in Brazil, and comes with impressive wraps from United’s 2007/08 Club Champion, who is currently in Brazil for his knee reconstruction.

Beginning his career as a 16 year old in the junior ranks at Brazilian club Cruzeiro Esporte Clube, Everson Arantes de Oliveira ( full name) has played at four other Brazilian clubs, the most recent being CA Juventus.

The 25-year-old is capable on both his left and right foot and is known for his ability to deliver high quality crosses into the penalty area, a trait Alagich has been renowned for during his Adelaide United career.

Alemao joins fellow defender Sasa Ognenovski as United’s other new signing to date for the 2008/09 campaign, while Angelo Costanzo, Michael Valkanis, Daniel Beltrame, Kristian Sarkies and Fabian Barbiero have all extended their contracts during the Hyundai A-League off season and are confirmed for next season.

Alemão is expected to arrive in Adelaide to join the squad for the start of pre season training in mid June.
