ADELAIDE United boss Aurelio Vidmar is to be offered a new four-year deal at Hindmarsh Stadium.
Reports in the Adelaide press say the coach will be offered a contract which will see him tied to the club until 2013.
Vidmar couldn't lead United into the top four last season but has steered the club into the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League.
His current two-year deal comes to an end in June next year and Reds chairman Dario Fontanarosa is anxious to extend it.
The chairman told the Adelaide Advertiser: "I see Viddie as an investment.
"We gave Viddie the job last year and I see his role as one which should be part of the bigger picture.
"I think he's done some great things while he's been in charge.
"But in two years I don't think that anyone can achieve full potential."
Vidmar's pending new offer will be put to the club's board, football department and chief executive Sam Ciccarello.
And Fontanarosa said the deal would be performance-based.
He said: "That's also the key. Results count for many things and also the job he has in developing this club for the future.
"We sent Viddie and football director Michael Petrillo to Europe this year to bring back some ideas so we can make this club the best in the country."
Vidmar said: "I'm flattered but I need to get results. Coaching is all about that."
