ADELAIDE United boss Aurelio Vidmar said Eugene Galekovic's performance in the 1-0 defeat by Sydney FC should have hammered home his international credentials to Pim Verbeek.
Verbeek was in the stands at the SFS to see Sydney earn their second 1-0 win of the week while the Reds failed to find the net once again.
Vidmar was quick to credit Sydney FC's performance, while he said the Reds would again need to get back on the track and try to find a winning formula ahead of another tough road trip away to Gold Coast United in a fortnight.
"They (Sydney FC) are a very good side. They're a quick slick passing side and tonight they were very good, especially coming off three games in a week, I thought they were very good," Vidmar said.
"We've got to keep plugging away. Certainly mathematically we're not out of the picture but the loss tonight has made it more difficult, but we've still got to believe we can get to the finals.
"We've just got to keep working hard and concentrate on the next match in two weeks time against the Gold Coast."
Vidmar also saved mention for Galekovic, who was a standout for the Reds ahead of the Socceroos' upcoming trip to Kuwait and next year's World Cup.
"Pim (Verbeek) shouldn't look any further than Eugene Galekovic. I've said that for the past couple of months. He's been super consistent for two and a half years, and Pim shouldn't look any further than Eugene in my opinion," Vidmar added.
With no games in the Hyundai A-League next weekend due to the FIFA break, the Reds have a fortnight to prepare for a massive test away against the red hot Gold Coast United on Saturday, January 9.
