AURELIO Vidmar has shown no sympathy towards the latest A-League gamblers believing the players should have known better.
Melbourne Victory captain Kevin Muscat, his team-mate Grant Brebner and Queensland Roar's Craig Moore have been fined for betting on A-League games.
Brebner also received a two-match ban.
Vidmar said the A-Leauge's stance on gambling had been made clear to every player.
"That's been set in stone in their contracts for a few years now so everyone knows you're not supposed to gamble on any A-League games because they are part of the A-League," he said.
"In my view it's not a mistake, they should have known, they should've known for years that they can't gamble on A-League games."
"I'm quite surprised how lenient they were on those boys because we don't want that part of our game, we shouldn't have it."
Vidmar said he'd be disappointed if any of his players were caught gambling.
And the Reds coach is also concerned what might arise in the A-League if the competition continues to mirror the problems seen in other football codes.
"Unfortunately it (gambling problems) happened in the AFL and we followed suit very quickly," he said.
"Drugs have been part of the AFL as well and hopefully it's not part of the A-League.
"The way the game is and the way the profile is becoming, one day something like that might come out."
