It was the Reds first loss at home this season and the 10,705 strong crowd were left unhappy as their side failed to show the form resulting in successive 4-1 home victories.

Conditions were less than ideal as both sides struggled to find their footing in a rain soaked match.

But ultimately Queensland adapted the quickest and settled into a rhythm Adelaide were unable to find.

“It just wasn’t our night. We looked flat from the start and really couldn’t get into the groove” said a despondent Vidmar.

“We spoke at half time that there would probably only be a goal in it and that’s exactly what it was.”

“Robbie Cornthwaite could have scored an equaliser with a free header but that’s part of it so we’ve just got to move on.”

“We weren’t really pleased with the execution of our passing tonight and I think generally, that was just right from the word go to the end.”

“We just lacked a little spark” he added.

United resorted to long ball tactics and couldn’t unlock a rigid Queensland defence marshalled by captain Craig Moore.

With Diego missing through injury Adelaide couldn’t find the final through ball as Dez Giraldi became isolated up front.

“We tried to go long. We tried to go behind. We tried to go deep and it just wasn’t working tonight” said midfielder Lucas Pantelis.

“To their credit, their back four did a really good job. The midfielders pushed up really high and it didn’t allow us to get forward.”

“We’ll bounce back from this. We just go back to the drawing board, get back to basics and try get a win away from home next week” he added.

Jonas Salley also picked up another yellow card forcing him to miss next week’s match leaving Aurelio Vidmar with plenty to think about over the coming days.

“We had a night off without question, everyone was in the same boat” Vidmar said.

“There’s probably a few aspects of our game which have been good over the last five or so weeks that we need to improve.”

“We’ll work on that this week and we’ll be much better for it.”
