AURELIO Vidmar concedes that propping up the A-League is embarrassing yet he remains convinced Adelaide United can still push for a top six slot.
Adelaide United entertain Newcastle Jets at Hindmarsh Stadium tomorrow night in a match they really cannot afford to lose.
The Reds currently find themselves in unfamiliar territory at the bottom of the table.
"It's very embarrassing and I need to take full responsibility for that," the Reds coach said today.
"It's just unacceptable, we understand that and I need to give a big apology to the fans, to the members, to everyone involved because it's just not goo enough
"That's how it is at the moment. No one is happy about being at the bottom of the table, so we really need to pick ourselves up and make sure we start heading north."
A visit from the travelling Jets gives the Reds an opportunity and a chance to build some much needed confidence at home, as positive results have been few and far between at Hindmarsh this season.
Vidmar says the playing group is irate about their results over the past month, which has seen the Reds without a win in five games, and he believes the players' want to prove they have what it takes to once again be a dominant force, could be used to their advantage come kick-off.
"There's no extra motivation needed tomorrow night. We know the situation we're in, we know where we are and we know what we need to do to get ourselves out of it," said Vidmar.
"It's not a nice situation, it's not a nice feeling but if we can take that bit of anger, but a controlled anger and a controlled aggression, then you've got a better chance of winning.
"We pride ourselves on being really competitive, so what we need to do is get ourselves off the bottom very quickly, still stay very confident. I certainly believe in the group, I certainly believe we've got the quality to be in the top six, so now we're just concentrating and doing everything we possibly can to make sure we get there.
"Hopefully we can put a real positive mindset in the players, I think they're in a very good frame of mind and hopefully we can play a nice brand of attacking football, but more importantly, it's about winning.
"It's about going out there now and delivering a good performance, (but) more importantly it's about getting the three points because we don't want to be sitting here in the next three or four weeks talking about the same thing."
Vidmar has signalled there is likely to be changes to the line up that went down to North Queensland Fury last weekend. Midfielder Paul Reid completed the team's final training session this morning and has put his hand up to return, while 19 year-old Mathew Leckie has also been cleared to play after recovering from a knee problem that hampered him against Fury.
Standing in the Reds' way are a Newcastle side coming off arguably their best performance of the season, a 3-1 away win over Sydney FC, and Vidmar knows the Reds will have their work cut out to take all three points.
He added: "Let's not forget the fact that they had a fantastic win against Sydney, they're a very good football side and we know we've got a lot of work to do, to make sure that we get the three points."
