Livorno finished a tough Serie A campaign in style as they enjoyed a 4-2 win over Atalanta.
Having finally secured their Serie A status last week, the pressure was off for Livorno and it showed as they threw caution to the wind going forward.
All but one of the goals came in a frantic second half. Cristiano Lucarelli put Livorno ahead on the stroke of half-time and Stefano Morrone added another minutes after the break.
Ricardo Zampagna bundled in the rebound of his own missed penalty in the 51st minute to get one back from Atalanta but Lucarelli replied from the penalty spot. Davide Bombardini got one more back from the visitors, but Paulinho had the last word for Livorno six minutes from time.
After last week's goal-less draw with Torino ensured Livorno would stay up, there was little riding on this game for either team, but Livorno looked determined to give their fans something to cheer on the last day of the season.
Early on, Morrone got up to head Antonio Filippini's cross goalwards, but Atalanta goalkeeper Andrea Ivan did well to block it.
At the other end, Nelson Abeijon got on the end of Fernando Tissone's pass but fired wide from the edge of the area.
As half-time approached, Lucarelli grazed the post with a placed shot, and the Livorno talisman then wasted an even better chance in what could have been his last game for the club.
Having pounced on a defensive mistake by Claudio Rivalta he was in a great position but fluffed his shot.
However, there was still time for No. 99 to find the net before the break. Morrone picked him out on the edge of the area and the striker beat Simone Loria before firing home.
Almost as soon as the second half began Livorno doubled their lead as Morrone capitalised on a mix-up between Rivalta and Ivan to steal in and pass the ball into the open net.
However, Atalanta were soon on the scoresheet themselves after they were given a penalty when Stefano Fiore blocked a free-kick with his elbow.
Zampagna saw his spot-kick saved by Marco Amelia, but the rebound fell kindly for him to fire in the rebound.
Just five minutes later Livorno restored their two-goal advantage after Luca Ariatti was guilty of the lightest of shoves on Lucarelli inside the area, giving the striker the chance to score from the spot.
Atalanta got another goal back in the 65th minute as Bombardini exchanged quick passes with Christian Vieri before beating Amelia from close range.
In the closing stages, there was time for Paulinho to find the net once more, picking up the pieces after Ivan could only parry Morrone's shot.
