HEIDELBERG United scored a last gasp equaliser to secure a valuable point in a 1-1 draw at Green Gully.
In a sub-standard encounter, 78th minute substitute Kurt Crnic placed a fine strike past Nikola Roganovic in the Gully goal with the last kick of the game.
Earlier, Cavaliers winger Jonathan Munoz scored his first goal of the season to give the home side the lead after 21 minutes.
The game began at a quick pace with plenty of room through the middle of the ground.
Gully striker Mathew Sanders whipped in the first dangerous ball in the opening exchanges from the left hand side, but Christian Morales took it safely.
United was in the game and the surprisingly quiet Osagie Ederaro teed up Saso Alexovski to shoot well over after six minutes.
Winger Yanni Galanos did the same when he cut inside from the left hand side a minute later.
It was a tense opening and there was plenty of emotion between both sides on the pitch.
The home side had the best chance of the game after nine minutes and Sanders should have opened the scoring.
Midfielder Graham Hockless found himself on the ball on the right hand side but Sanders could only head his cross wide from six yards.
Galanos had another chance after 13 minutes, but he hit his stinging free kick from 25 yards directly at Roganovic.
The Cavaliers took a deserved lead through Munoz after 21 minutes.
Andy Vargas found space on the right hand side and his dangerous cross fell for Munoz, whose strike looped into far the top corner of the net for his first goal of the season.
For a period, it looked as though United had had the stuffing knocked out of it thanks to the opening goal.
There was controversy just after the half hour when target United striker Hamid Basma was brought down inside the area.
The striker had pounced on a slip by Mile Medjedovic to get through into a one-on-one position and the referee deemed the attention from the big defender legal as Roganovic swooped at Basma's feet to win the ball.
Both teams forfeited possession as the pace of the opening half an hour took its toll towards the end of the first period.
The Bergers produced some dangerous opportunities late, including a ricocheted ball going just wide off Basma and a shot from Alexovski crucially blocked.
Galanos should have levelled the scores minutes into the second half with Heidelberg's best opportunity.
After an Alexovski pass, Galanos shot well over the bar from inside the area as Roganovic advanced.
United was in the game as Green Gully struggled to produce anything through midfield or retain possession.
The relegation-battling visitors were becoming more desperate as the second half went on.
Steve Martin headed a corner from Hrvoje Matkovic inches wide after charging into the area.
Matkovic then had a sighter of his own, but Roganovic easily saved his 30-yard free kick.
The Cavaliers almost wrapped up the points in the 87th minute.
Scrappy play inside the area led to a Vargas shot that was in turn controlled and cleared off the line by Phil Warner.
Munoz shot over the bar again as Gully looked to hold on for the three points.
But it was not to be with Crnic bobbing up late on.
Defender John Lazaridis, who played a superb second half, played the ball into Ederaro, whose pass across the box found Crnic lurking to place home into the near top corner of the net and send the visitors into raptures.
