Sydney FC sit on the bottom of the W-League ladder after a 3-1 home loss to Brisbane Roar on the opening day of the season followed by a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle Jets away.

The Sky Blues finished third last term and are predicted to be one of the contenders for the 2017/18 W-League campaign.

In the off-season, Sydney lost Matildas duo Alanna Kennedy and Kyah Simon to Melbourne City but gained the likes of Lisa De Vanna, Caitlin Cooper and Chloe Logarzo.

Polias admitted the Sky Blues have begun the season slower than expected.

“It hasn’t been the best start,” she told FourFourTwo.

“I feel like we are better prepared than we ever have been but things aren’t going that well at the moment.

“In saying that, we aren’t in panic mode and we’ve put in a lot of hard work.

“It’s the first time in our history we’ve had such a huge squad turnaround. We only retained eight or less players from the previous group last season.

“It probably has a role to play as we didn’t have everyone for the whole-pre-season but to me it’s just pure chemistry.

“We are a little but frantic at times on the field. Maybe we could keep a cool head and play the simple option a bit more.”

Sydney FC coach Ante Juric said the slow start could be down to not having as many imports as their fellow W-League opponents with Emily Sonnett the club's only international recruit.

“It’s been a rocky start, but we’ll be okay and I’m sure we’ll get into the finals,” he said speaking to FourFourTwo.

“This season every team has got four or five foreign imports,” he said.

“We are probably the only team that has one so that could be hurting us. But you know what? I’d rather be putting in Australian players.

“It does improve the game, but we have to be mindful of not allowing imports to take the place of our youngsters.

“That’s a worry, but at the end of the day the competition has improved out of sight due to these imports.”

Australian Under 17 Captain Angelique Hristodoulou has come to Sydney from Western Sydney. After making her debut as a 15-year-old, the defender played the majority of the Wanderers 2016-17 campaign.

Angelique’s father, Eric Hristodoulou, played with Sydney Olympic in the former NSL and also the Olyroos and the teenager told FourFourTwo she can feel the high expectations the Sky Blues have this season.

“Our goal is to be in the final and win it,” said the 16-year-old defender.

“It doesn’t come without hard work and we know that every opposition is going to be hard. If we don’t bring our game, it is not going to be easy.

“We are building a good team culture which I hope will be a big factor in helping contribute to being in the finals and playing the best football.

“Sydney FC’s club culture, has a winning mentality in both W-League and A-League so we have to strive to do the best that we can.”

Round three of the W-League seea Sydney FC take on Canberra United in capital on Sunday at 4:30 pm at McKellar Park.
