The 22-year-old England international struggled to contain Juan Mata in the thrilling encounter and was at fault for Chelsea's fourth goal, being dispossessed by the Spaniard, who supplied the assist for Daniel Sturridge.

Walker was left so incensed by angry messages on the social networking site that he decided to leave – though not before leaving a response to the abuse he received.

"Would love to know what I'm doing so different I give 100 per cent every game and still u (sic) (have) something to say I'm 22 and learning #embarrassing," he wrote to more than 250,000 followers.

Walker said his error in losing possession should have resulted in him being awarded a free-kick.

"If I said what I thought to these people I would get done humans make mistakes it was 90mins and I though(t) a foul end off(sic)!!!!"

The Tottenham defender won the PFA Young Player of the Year Award for his performances during the 2011/12 season.

He has broken into the national setup as Roy Hodgson looks to add youth and pace to his England side.
