Sotirio and the Wanderers are still burning after being on the end of a 3-0 loss in the FFA Cup semi-final just a few weeks ago.

This weekend’s Sydney derby takes place at the SCG and will be the first time a competitive football match takes place at the iconic venue.

But Western Sydney attacker Sotirio isn’t concerned where the game is taking place as the only thing on his mind is overturning the Wanderers most recent loss to their bitter rivals.

“We want to get our revenge,” he said. “It doesn’t really matter where we play against them we are going to give 100% and our all. We are feeling confident.

“We lost in the FFA Cup semi-final against them and we are excited coming up against them to show them what we’ve got.

“We have reviewed the game and we definitely had our chances in the first half but we didn’t capitalise on them.

“They are a good team, they had two or three chances and they converted them.

“If we just work on our chances we will be all right."

Sotirio is now in his fifth season at the Wanderers and the 23-year-old believes now is the time to take his game to the next level and wants to start in this weekend’s grudge match.

“I’ve played in a couple of derbies now,” he said. “I definitely want to show my experience and I will definitely go in there with the right mentality.

“I’m trying to improve myself and I’ve set some personal goals so I will try and do well this season.

“My dream is to play overseas and hopefully if I have a good season I can move on to Europe next season."

After the coaching merry go round of last season Sotirio is hopeful that new head coach Markus Babbel can lead the team to a finals birth in this campaign.

“He can definitely improve us,” he said. “He has a lot of experience as he played for big teams in Europe. We are very excited to be coming into the derby under him.

“He’s definitely different to the past coaches we have had but one that we are very much enjoying being with.

“He wants us to work hard and  he will get the best out of us.”

After a season of misfiring in front of goal in recent times, Sotirio feels that the only thing stopping Western Sydney from reaching their optimal level is putting away their chances.

“It’s our execution in the final third,” he said.

“We haven’t scored with our opportunities and that is something we are  building on and working on.

“We are not far. We are still building and getting to know each other and all the concepts and the patterns that we are playing.

“Getting a win in the derby would start the momentum and it would definitely get us playing to our potential and would put us in a good position for our future matches.”
