The A-League's newest franchise Western Sydney Wanderers will look back to the past for inspiration next week when they play their part in the 1880 Heritage Football Match.
On this day, the August 14, 1880, the first recorded football match in NSW was played at the Kings School in Sydney.
One team was made up of students from The King's School First XV rugby squad and the other was a team who became The Wanderers, the first 'Association Football' club in the land.
To commemorate this very special day in Australian Football history, the Western Sydney Wanderers will be hosting a re-enactment match on Saturday August 24th at the Kings School White Oval as part of their annual Kings Spring Festival.
This “1880 Heritage Football Match” will be played by a team of Kings School current and past players and a team made up of past Socceroos and past national League players.

This match creates a historic point for the current day Western Sydney Wanderers and cements their heritage as the newest oldest football club in Australia.
The day’s activities will kick off with the Kings Spring Festival at 10am, followed by a Wanderers Football clinic (11am), 1880 Heritage match (2pm) and the Kings School Festival (4pm).
Across the day, the Western Sydney Wanderers players will be in attendance to meet fans and enjoy the Kings Spring Festival.
The Kings Spring Festival and the 1880 Heritage Football Match are open to the public. The Kings School is located on Pennant Hills Rd North Parramatta.
