Crystal Palace recently announced the signing of James McCarthy from Everton by tweeting a 'Friends-Reunited' themed video before deleting the tweet.

The video shows the midfielder outside an internet cafe, before cutting to a social media website called 'Friends Reunited' much like Facebook or MySpace in the past.

A search is entered for McCarthy before the former Everton man pops up in a Crystal Palace shirt.

The tweet was labelled 'embarrassing' by football fans and the announcement was seemingly so bad that Palace was forced to delete the tweet.

The Eagles saw the funny side of the situation by releasing a new tweet with McCarthy signalling for VAR with the caption 'VAR check complete. Tweet Deleted'.

However, the announcement video will live on with Twitter users screen recording the video before it was taken down. 

McCarthy joins Palace in an AUD$14 million deal and brings a wealth of Premier League experience to the club.

Palace manager Roy Hodgson told the club's website: "I'm really pleased we've been able to bring James to the club because he's a player I've admired for a very long time."

"He's a player with a vast amount of Premier League experience, given his six and four years playing for Everton and Wigan respectively, and will be an excellent addition to our midfielder."

McCarthy will be hoping he receives a better reception from Eagles supporters than his announcement video received.
