Arsenal surprisingly lost 1-0 away to English Premier League strugglers Norwich on Saturday, but they occupy top spot in Group B of the Champions League, with a maximum of six points from two matches played.

Schalke are two points back from Arsenal in second spot, as the teams prepare for potentially decisive back-to-back meetings, with the first instalment at the Emirates Stadium this week.

"The team (Schalke) try to play good football," Wenger said.

"They try to play from the back like all German teams. They have just had a very good result in Dortmund," he said, referring to a 2-1 win away to the reigning Bundesliga champions on Saturday.

"They are a solid side with good organisation. Up front they have (Klaas-Jan) Huntelaar and (Jefferson) Farfan, who we know well, and (Ibrahim) Afellay or (Julian) Draxler if he plays - I don't know. They are dangerous with counter-attacks."

Meanwhile, Schalke head coach Huub Stevens is aware of the huge challenge facing his side at the Emirates.

The German team have not won in England in five previous visits but are yet to lose an away match this season.

"The way that Arsenal have played their home games so far, they were putting a lot of pressure on the opposition," he said.

"I think that is what they will attempt to do against us tomorrow and it is up to us to show our qualities on the pitch."
