A Fantastic strike from Dimi Petratos in the 18th minute, curling the ball into the keeper's top right-corner of the goal, before Jason Hoffman was first to react from a scramble in the penalty box to score the Jets' second three minutes later. Steven Ugarkovic was the link in both goals.

A controversial and straight forward penalty was eventually slotted home by Roy O’Donovan and Matthew Ridenton finished a polished performance. Glen Moss had an inspiring game between the sticks throughout - dominated his penalty area with complete conviction.

WESTERN SYDNEY WANDERERS

Vedran Janjetovic – 6.5

Couldn’t do anything about the opening goal or the penalties. Completely missed the ball with his fist, should have done better for the Jets' fourth goal. Defence let him down, but equally he needs to organise them.

Raul Llorente – 7

Making good runs forward, creating good width. Decent strike late on in the first-half.

Tarek Elrich – 6.5

Slow to release the ball. Looked like he struggled.

Brendan Hamill – 6.5

Strong defensive headers. Guilty of giving the ball away which resulted in the Jets' opening goal.

Josh Risdon – 6

First game back since the Asian Cup. Started well, defending and getting forward adequately, but got caught out twice while pressing forward in possession. Subbed in the 55th minute with a groin injury.

Keanu Baccus – 5.5

Lacking in pace, energy and purpose

Kwame Yeboah – 5.5

Poor decision making, no presence and was unable to take control in the midfield.

Marc Tokich – 5.5

Poor give away. Gave a penalty away with a late tackle on Vargas and Hoffman.

Roly Bonevacia – 7.5

One of the few players who showed any intent, pace and energy but sadly wasn’t supported enough. Subbed 67th minute

Oriol Riera – 6

Decent strike but it was a good save from Glen Moss. Too casual at times though.

Bruce Kamau – 7

Two tame shots on goal mid-way through the first-half. Kept running and trying to create something but he was not being supported when they counter-attacked.  Subbed 71st minute.

Subs

Mitchell Duke – 6

Returned to the A-League and scored with his first impact, a great run into the box from the corner, then a superb header guiding the ball top right-side. Brilliant strike late on in the second-half.

Jaushua Sotirio – 6

On for Kamau. Injected pace and energy, getting involved from the out-set.

Tate Russell – 6

On for Risdon. Couple of runs but nothing of note.

NEWCASTLE JETS

Glen Moss – 8.5

Brilliant save diving down his right-hand side, pushing the ball away from goal. Another great save but this time using his feet. Standing strong between the sticks getting himself in the right position. Had a superb game.

Johnny Koutroumbis – 7

Had a solid game in defence, played his role very well. Subbed 65th minute.

Nigel Boogaard – 8.0

Solid, performance, totally commanded his area. Superb display along his partner in defence.

Nikolai Topor-Stanley – 8.0

Along with Boogaard, he produced a superb defensive performance. Concentrated throughout the match.

Daniel Georgievski – 7.5

Nice ball crossed into the box early on. Working hard in defence up and down the right-hand side of the park. Showed solid intent. Clever defending.

Steven Ugarkovic – 7.5

Two pefect passes which set up the Jets' two goals. Defended really well, staying on his feet. Brilliant game.

Ronald Vargas – 7.5

Quick-feet, holds the ball up very well. Fantastic pace. Good patience in distribution. Subbed in the 78th minute.

Matthew Ridenton – 7.5

Reading the play well. Fantastic defending. Scored the Jets' fourth, a well balanced strike to slot it in. Showed fantastic energy.

Jason Hoffman – 7.5

Slippy conditions but a sloppy cross early on. Picked up his game immensely.  21st minute, he scored from the rebound. Great intent and energy causing all sort of troubles for the Wanderers defence. Strong in holding the ball and generally, a well balanced player. Subbed 70th minute.

Roy O’Donovan – 7

Scored two penalties. A lot of running and energy, throughout the 90 minutes. Impressive intent to drop deep to pick up the ball and sweep it either left or right.

Dimi Petratos – 8.0

Getting back to help out in defence. Sublime strike on goal, curling into the keepers top right-hand side. 18 minute - a smart back heel to create the Jets' second goal. He was everywhere, controlling the midfield, crossing the ball in. huge amount of pace and intent, very lively.

Subs

Ben Kantarovski – 6

On for Vargas. Went about his job, but the Jets had already collected the points.

Jair – 6

Perfect ball to piece the Wanderers defence

Ivan Vujica- 6

Came on but job done for Newcastle Jets.
