For the second time this season, Western Sydney put four goals past Wellington Phoenix as an unlikely Brendan Hamill brace moved Wanderers a step closer to securing a finals spot.
Western Sydney Wanderers
Vedran Janjetovic - 7
Janjetovic could do nothing about Singh’s goal as his heroics were used in denying Roy Krishna in the lead up to Wellington’s equaliser.
Joshua Risdon - 7
Risdon had his game face on tonight after being listed as apart of Socceroos coach Bert van Maarwijk’s 29-man squad for the upcoming friendlies against Norway and Colombia. Under little pressure from Sarpreet Singh the 25-year old handled himself professionally.
Brendan Hamill - 8
After a gaffe in the first half, missing a point blank header, the defender came up trumps securing the three points with two exceptional finishes from Wanderers corners.
Michael Thwaite - 6.5
Wellington’s front three were no match for the experienced defender winning countless headed duels and intercepting multiple threaded passes from Wellington’s midfielders as they tried to play direct.
Raul Llorente - 5
If there was anything Wellington did exceptionally it was closing down Raul Llorente. The Spaniard has proven to be exceptionally important for the Wanderers going forward however Nathan Burns and Scott Galloway closed down the danger.
Roly Bonevacia - 5
On his return from suspension it seemed he may need a week to get the legs moving again. Under a lot of pressure from the Wellington midfielders Bonevacia’s passing was far from perfect.
Marcelo Carrusca - N/A
Looked promising as the Argentinian pulled the strings in the front third however he was substituted early with a quad complaint.
Steven Lustica - 6
Lustica had a quiet night in midfield with a successful passing rate although most of it was lateral to his fellow midfielders or wingers rather than more penetrating passes we’ve seen this season.
Mark Bridge - 7
Riding high on his confidence from last weeks goal, the skipper embarrassed the Wellington defenders as he set up a tap in for Brendan Santalab for the opener.
Brendan Santalab - 6.5
From his first involvements in the match you knew the evergreen forward was raring to go throwing himself int challenges and creating multiple goal scoring chances. Replacing Oriol Riera, Santalab finished off Bridge’s hard work to open he scoring.
Chris Ikonomidis - 7.5
Looked dangerous as usual as he came up against the team he scored against on his debut. He had Wanderers hearts in mouths as Risdon set him up with an open net but still danced around the Wellington defender to slide into an empty net.
Substitutes
Alvaro Cejudo - 6
Looked lively and was key to multiple incisions into the Wellington box but the final ball eluded the Spaniard until his corner found the head of Hamill to send the Wanderers in front.
Jaushua Sotirio - 5
A livewire when hec ame on for Santalab, Sotirio was the perfect sub to run rings around Wellington's tired midfield.
Keanu Baccus - N/A
Wellington Phoenix
Tando Velaphi - 6
Velaphi was only troubled with some routine saves in the first half but was let down by poor defending for the Wanderers opener. He was peppered with even more shots in the second half as Wellington ran out of steam.
Scott Galloway - 5
Had Llorente’s number for the match and did a confident job in keeping tabs on the Spaniard although on the break Galloway was often out of position as Mark Bridge caused him to loose his bearings as he dared past him to set up Santalab.
Andrew Durante - 4.5
Looked like some dreadful positional play at the beginning of the match with the Wanderers penetrating the Wellington box twice in two minutes. Looked in all sorts as they were invaded time and again by the Wanderers.
Dylan Fox - 4.5
Some questionable defending to begin the match as they shook the cobwebs off with some lucky Wanderers profligacy.
Thomas Doyle - 5
A few defensive headers and an improved second half performance prevented the scoreline ballooning into a slaughter.
Liberato Cacace - 4.5
The 17-year-old started the match in his more familiar defensive midfield position however it was never going to be an easy ride against a compact midfield like the Wanderers as the youngster struggled to make an impact.
Goran Paracki - 5.5
It was poised to be a tough contest between Paracki and Carrusca but after the Argentinian was subbed off injured Paracki had to deal with Alvaro Cejudo which seemed to have been just as hard a task.
Matthew Ridenton - 5
A quiet evening for the 23-year-old midfielder as he tried his best to keep Wellington’s structure and shape. To his credit he has improved upon this but the Wanderers opened them up time and again.
Sarpreet Singh - 6
A quick response for Wellington was what Singh provided as he slammed a rebounded save from Janjetovic into the roof of the net to equalise moments after the Wanderers took the lead.
Nathan Burns - 5
Some great close control inside the box to get the shot away leading to Sarpreet Singh’s crucial equaliser. Wellington’s very direct style wasn’t suiting the Socceroo.
Roy Krishna - 6
Playing centrally replacing Andrea Kaludjerovic the Fijian had a clear cut chance saved by Vedran Janjetovic and again in the second half by the Wanderers goalkeeper. It just wasn’t his night.
Substitues
Matija Lujic - 5
Had little impact on the match and couldn't provide Wellington with any significant spark.
Alex Rufer - 5
Wellington's midfield was already overrun by the time Rufer was summoned.
