The match was stopped late in first half on Saturday when Zenit St Petersburg fans tossed the missiles on the ground causing chemical burns to both eyes of Anton Shunin.

According to Dynamo’s website the shot stopper also suffered hearing loss in his right ear and will be out of action for at least 10 days.

The Moscow club was leading the match 1-0 at the time of the attack.

Just last month Wilkshire narrowly avoided another dangerous incident when Dynamo fans in camouflage gear shot players with paintball guns during a training session to protest the side's worst-ever start to the season.

Following the latest incident Shunin told the club’s website: "Something had landed near my feet. I looked down and at that moment the petard blew up into my face. Right now I have some problems with my vision and hearing.”

Interfax quoted police as saying: "We have made 53 arrests, including a young male fan who is suspected of throwing that particular petard.”

Zenit, who face Spanish outfit Malaga in a Champions League match on Wednesday, have threatened to pull out of the Russian championship if the club is hit with an "unfair penalty".
