Speaking at the launch of the new Hyundai A-League season, the right-sided midfielder has returned home to gain regular football.

And after joining Fury on loan from his Danish club Brondby, the 22-year-old says a return is not a step backwards in his career.

Williams launched his career as a 16-year-old at Queensland Roar before his move to Denmark. The pacy midfielder now hopes a similar scenario at North Queensland can relaunch his career again.

"The first goal is to play well for the team. I hate losing. I might not show it. I can't stand losing," he told au.fourfourtwo.com.

"And my short term goal is to get into the Socceroo squad. Maybe the World Cup in 2010 is too far-fetched but I've still got an ambition for the lead up squads. But 2014 - you never know."

Williams will be 26 and should be close to his peak for the 2014 tourney. Taking on the mantle of Socceroo right sided attacker from Brett Emerton would be a big challenge but one he feels capable of doing.

His Socceroo debut in 2008 against China in a World Cup qualifier in Sydney tied the player to Australia despite also being eligible for the Three Lions through his half Aboriginal, half English parentage .

"It was difficult only having three days with the players and not knowing their first instincts but it was such a huge honour," he said of his substitute role in the 0-1 dead rubber loss at ANZ.

"And Brazil would be amazing if I made it. Who knows?"

Outside of football and Williams' other passion is music. He's a guitarist ("I wouldn't say rock, more laidback music") and uses music to relax in between games.

Although at Fury, there has been a hiccup in his off-pitch passion for strumming.

He revealed: "It actually broke on the plane coming over here! So I‘m getting it fixed right now."
