Germany defeated Japan 2-0 at Hangzhou Dragon Stadium on Monday to finish top of Group A and progress to the quarter-finals of the Women's World Cup.
Germany took the lead in the 21st minute when a corner landed at the feet of Birgit Prinz and the Frankfurt striker made no mistake, firing beyond Miho Fukumoto for her record 13th goal in World Cup competition.
Prinz headed wide when unmarked in the 79th minute but Germany finally scored again with three minutes remaining when Rinate Lingor converted a penalty.
