Australian youngster Gabriel Cleur is facing a weird prospect helping loan club Siena towards promotion while his parent club Virtus Entella heads for the drop.
However, having spent six months in the division, Cleur said Serie C is a good standard league.
“It’s very good quality,” he said. “Not many people realize.
“The difference between Serie B and Serie C is probably the technical aspect, it’s sharper than Serie C.
“But a lot of the players in Serie C have dropped down from Serie A who are finishing their careers or something went wrong in their careers, their attitude or they may have got injured early on or whatever.
“These players are good quality. Even in my team there’s players who’ve played for Roma, Sampdoria and Spezia, so they’re good clubs. It’s a good league to learn in and gain experience from.”
The promotion play-offs, with Serie A and Serie B concluded, also are a great showcase, something which Cleur is all too aware of.
“A lot of people will be watching these games,” he said.
Cleur is likely to play a key role having broken into the Siena first-team, after initially finding it hard to break into a side at the top of Serie C.
“At first it was a bit hard because they were doing so well,“ he said.
“They’d only lost four games halfway through the season, so it’s not normal to find it hard to break in, especially for a player like me with no experience.
“I think I’ve done well and towards the end of the season I’ve become more regularly used.”
Siena will learn their play-offs opponents when the third round is completed on Thursday.
