Jenna, a former McDonald’s Northern NSW Football scholarship winner and current Young Matildas team member, is proud to be associated with the McDonald’s and Northern NSW Football program.

"As a former McDonald’s football scholarship winner and elite sports player, I understand the importance of encouraging children to be involved in a team sport and lead a balanced, active lifestyle," she said.

"It’s great to be here today and see these kids really enjoying their sport and learning some new skills," she added.

Benita Johnson, McDonald's Armidale owner/operator, said that McDonald's is pleased to continue its partnership with Northern NSW Football, now in its fourth consecutive year, and make a valuable contribution to the development of football at a grass roots level.

"We really encourage primary schools throughout Northern NSW to get involved in the program, like Armidale City Public has done. This is a great way for schools to foster students’ involvement in team sport with their friends and help them lead a balanced and active lifestyle," she said.

Over 1,000 professional coaching clinics will be delivered at schools throughout the region teaching football skills such as passing, dribbling, juggling and 'heading' balls as well as the importance of exercise and basic nutritional information.

The sponsorship of the coaching clinics is part of a wider sponsorship commitment from McDonald's restaurants in the region, which also includes the presentation of 22 McDonald's Sports Scholarships which will be awarded across each of the seven associations within Northern NSW later this year.

Football Manager of Northern NSW Football, David Smith, said thousands of primary school students from across the region will see the benefits of the sponsorship.

"The McDonald’s Northern NSW Football Coaching Clinics will see school children from more than 200 schools stretching from Lake Macquarie to Tweed Heads and here throughout the northwest region visited and taught football skills over a twelve month period."

"We are delighted to continue our partnership with McDonald's restaurants throughout Northern NSW and look forward to working together to promote junior football in the region in 2007," he said.
