Read what the fans had to say about tonight's A-League match up…
After having a 19 match unbeaten run in the A-League broken last week against the Wanderers, Sydney FC were looking to bounce back against a 3rd placed Melbourne City side.
City began the match vibrantly, but it was the Sky Blues who were first to draw blood through a Bobô penalty in the 23rd minute. However, this was quickly undone as Nick Fitzgerald drew Melbourne City level, via a stunning strike only a minute later.
This eventful opening 45 minutes hadn't come to an end, though, when Manny Muscat recieved his second yellow card in the 39th minute.
By the second half, Sydney FC took complete advantage of a 10-man opposition, scoring twice through a 56th minute O'Neill free kick and a 67th minute Bobô goal.
Ultimately, a 3-1 scoreline was enough to take the A-League ladder leaders through till the completion of the match, extending their lead at the top of the table to eleven points.
But how did the fans react to the important, controversial and impressive moments of the game?
Pre-Match Thoughts…
Is there a way both teams can lose? 🤔 #MCYvSYD
— Melbourne Victory (@gomvfc) February 24, 2017
These games in Melbourne are killing the A-League. #MCYvSYD
— Broken Customer (@joeycee87) February 24, 2017
So conflicted I want both teams to lose with scenes involved. A scene filled draw will do #MCYvSYD

On Sydney’s navy blue kit…
Was it trendy? Was it too similar to Victory’s kit? Why hadn’t it been used before? Football fashion was all the talk…
Love the dark blue @SydneyFC kit! #MCYvSYD 👌
— Georgia Love (@GeorgiaLove71) February 24, 2017
Do I cheer for the team in dark blue? I’m confused. #aleague #MCYvSYD
— Joseph Ryan (@josephryan79) February 24, 2017
Finally @sfc have realised @gomvfc navy blue is the best #mcyvsyd @FOXFOOTBALL @FOXFootballLive
— Brett Goggin (@brettgoggin) February 24, 2017
Sydney fans would be spewing they're wearing a Victory lookalike kit 😳 #ALeague #MCYvSYD

On Sydney’s penalty and subsequent goal…
Muscat brought down Holosko in the 23rd minute, gifting Sydney a penalty, which was expertly converted by Bobô, handing the Sky Blues a 1-0 lead.
No red card? #MCYvSYD
— Didier (@desiderious) February 24, 2017
Yep, clear penalty. #MCYvSYD
— Josh Howe (@JoshO567) February 24, 2017
How is Muscat protesting anything after that?!?! #MCYvSYD
— Richard (@le__phenix) February 24, 2017
Bad penalty to concede. Sydney weren't doing much #MCYvSYD
— Matt (@Mattys123) February 24, 2017
Money well spent 💰💰💰 #Bobo #MCYvSYD #SydneyIsSkyBlue
— Daniel Lang (@UnDiluted7) February 24, 2017
On THAT Fitzgerald goal…
They say that you’re most vulnerable just after scoring, and Melbourne City’s Nick Fitzgerald took advantage of that with a sublime curling strike in the 25th minute.
OH MY. FITZGERALD DID SOMETHING GOOD ON A FOOTBALL PITCH! IT'S A MIRACLE AND IT'S 1-1 #MCYvSYD
— The Football Sack (@TheFootballSack) February 24, 2017
HOW ABOUT THAT! FITZGERALD! WHAT BEND!! 1-1! #MCYvSYD
— Tanner Coad (@Tanner_Coad19) February 24, 2017
Fitzgerald can't do that! #MCYvSYD
— Big Intelligence Fan (@eamonnwarner) February 24, 2017
Literally blinked, and I missed it. How did they get an equaliser so quickly? #MCYvSYD

On Muscat’s red card…
After tugging on Brosque’s shirt and pulling him down, Manny Muscat received his second yellow card in the 39th minute, placing Melbourne City in a vulnerable position. It’s fair to say that this wasn’t Muscat’s finest moment…

— Guido Tresoldi (@GuidoTresoldi) February 24, 2017
Thought that could have been a straight red? #MCYvSYD
— Kyle (@kyle_barnes15) February 24, 2017
Halftime Thoughts…
The amount of times City have turned the ball over in dangerous areas is ridiculous. No wonder they are down to 10 men already. #MCYvSYD
— Kurt T (@kurt_trew) February 24, 2017
The roller coaster of emotions that is football. #MCYvSYD
— Alvin Ng (@AlvinNg) February 24, 2017
If City want to be taken seriously then maybe more that 6 people should turn up to a game against the top team. Rubbish fans #MCYvSYD
— Red Mario (@worldinred) February 24, 2017
That was a very entertaining half of Football. Goals, cards, a send off, & some great attacking play. Hope there's more in 2nd 45. #MCYvSYD
— William Caldwell (@Will_Caldwell10) February 24, 2017
On O’Neill’s free-kick goal…
The 22-year-old ever so gently placed the ball over the wall, and into the top corner of the goal, putting Sydney ahead 2-1 in the 56th minute.

— minilu (@minilu) February 24, 2017
Great goal, but never a free-kick. #MCYvSYD
— Nick Sculley (@sculls_6) February 24, 2017
That was a perfectly weighted free kick #MCYvSYD
— Robert Cox (@Chosen_Chaos) February 24, 2017
Beautiful free kick from O'Neill. Going to be tough for City chasing the game with 10, Muscat really killing his team. #MCYvSYD #ALeague
— Justin Civitillo (@JC_Kazama) February 24, 2017
On Sydney’s third goal…
A clever assist from Holosko led to a tidy 67th minute finish from Bobô, placing the Sky Blues in a comfortable position.
That was good. #MCYvSYD
— Broken Customer (@joeycee87) February 24, 2017
And Arnold's boys deliver the killer blow. #MCYvSYD
— Declan Rooney (@DeclanRooney) February 24, 2017
Outrageous pass from Ninkovic #MCYvSYD
— Jim Morrison (@JimMorrison07) February 24, 2017
City’s defence all over the place. Franjic played him onside and Malik lost his man. #MCYvSYD
— Andy (@suspectandy) February 24, 2017
Sorry, there isn't a better footballer than Milos Ninkovic in this country #MCYvSYD
— Blake (@blake_1986) February 24, 2017
Fulltime thoughts…
Melbourne City just got Bobo'd#MCYvSYD
— Steve Mikić (@SMikic13) February 24, 2017
Great performance by @SydneyFC, proving again why we're #1. Bobo, Ninko, Brannerz all stunning. #MCYvSYD #SydneyIsSkyBlue
— Jamie (@sfc_jamie) February 24, 2017
Some good goals but a disappointing contest. Needed less Manny Muscat and more Fernando Brandan. #MCYvSYD #ALeague
— Justin Civitillo (@JC_Kazama) February 24, 2017
Good win @SydneyFC, might've been different without the send off but professional performance. #1inarow #MCYvSYD #ALeague #SydneyIsSkyBlue
— Terry Aylett (@Terry_Aylett) February 24, 2017
Manny Muscat should never wear the shirt again #MCYvSYD
— Paul La Rosa (@EyPaulie) February 24, 2017
Difference between us and them - when we went down to 10 last time we held out. City just didn't have the spine to do that #MCYvSYD
— Charolie (@chucky1188) February 24, 2017
Ninko could thread a needle in a dark room with one arm #MCYvSYD
— Jonathan Finger (@fingerj86) February 24, 2017
FT @MelbourneCity 1 @SydneyFC 3. The Sky Blues return to winning ways and become the fastest ever team to 50 points. #MCYvSYD
