After having a 19 match unbeaten run in the A-League broken last week against the Wanderers, Sydney FC were looking to bounce back against a 3rd placed Melbourne City side.

City began the match vibrantly, but it was the Sky Blues who were first to draw blood through a Bobô penalty in the 23rd minute. However, this was quickly undone as Nick Fitzgerald drew Melbourne City level, via a stunning strike only a minute later.

This eventful opening 45 minutes hadn't come to an end, though, when Manny Muscat recieved his second yellow card in the 39th minute.

By the second half, Sydney FC took complete advantage of a 10-man opposition, scoring twice through a 56th minute O'Neill free kick and a 67th minute Bobô goal.

Ultimately, a 3-1 scoreline was enough to take the A-League ladder leaders through till the completion of the match, extending their lead at the top of the table to eleven points.

But how did the fans react to the important, controversial and impressive moments of the game?

Pre-Match Thoughts…

On Sydney’s navy blue kit…

Was it trendy? Was it too similar to Victory’s kit? Why hadn’t it been used before? Football fashion was all the talk…

On Sydney’s penalty and subsequent goal…

Muscat brought down Holosko in the 23rd minute, gifting Sydney a penalty, which was expertly converted by Bobô, handing the Sky Blues a 1-0 lead.

On THAT Fitzgerald goal…

They say that you’re most vulnerable just after scoring, and Melbourne City’s Nick Fitzgerald took advantage of that with a sublime curling strike in the 25th minute.

On Muscat’s red card…

After tugging on Brosque’s shirt and pulling him down, Manny Muscat received his second yellow card in the 39th minute, placing Melbourne City in a vulnerable position. It’s fair to say that this wasn’t Muscat’s finest moment…

Halftime Thoughts…

On O’Neill’s free-kick goal…

The 22-year-old ever so gently placed the ball over the wall, and into the top corner of the goal, putting Sydney ahead 2-1 in the 56th minute.

On Sydney’s third goal…

A clever assist from Holosko led to a tidy 67th minute finish from Bobô, placing the Sky Blues in a comfortable position.

Fulltime thoughts…
