The Egyptian national football team, who are based during the 2018 World Cup in the Russian city of Grozny, will take part in a collective prayer in the main mosque of Grozny, the Akhmad Kadyrov Mosque, on Friday, local authorities told Sputnik on Thursday.
On 15 June Egypt were beaten by Uruguay 1-0 and they lost 3-1 to Russia in St. Petersburg on Tuesday. On Wednesday Egypt returned to their base in Grozny in the North Caucasus.
"The Egyptian football players are expected to come to a collective prayer to the Akhmad Kadyrov Mosque and will pray together with thousands of believers of the [Chechen] republic," the authorities said.
The mosque has a capacity of more than 10,000 people and is regarded as one of the largest and most beautiful mosques in Europe. On Fridays, Muslims from all over the Chechen Republic come to pray and the mosque is full.
Egypt will face Saudi Arabia in Volgograd on 25 June in their final Group A match.
