The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has fined the English Football Association (FA) 70,000 Swiss francs (about $70,000) and issued a warning to them for violating marketing rules, FIFA's press service said on Wednesday.
Earlier, FIFA had warned the FA of possible sanctions and asked to cease the activities that eventually led to the fine. Several members of the English squad continued to display unapproved commercial brands on their outfits before and during their quarter-final match against Sweden, which ended 2-0 to England on Saturday.
FIFA also fined the Uruguayan Football Association 50,000 Swiss francs (about $50,000) and issued a warning to them for the same violations and arriving late to the stadium. Uruguay had also been warned of possible sanctions, but did not cease their activity, with one of the team members displaying unapproved commercial brands on his outfit during their 2-0 loss to France in the last eight.
England will take on Croatia in their first World Cup semi-finals since 1990 in Moscow later on Wednesday. Should they win, Gareth Southgate's side will face France at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium in the final on Sunday.
