MOSCOW, June 3 (Sputnik) - Thirty-year-old Fenerbahce and Russia defender Roman Neustaedter says he is in "shock" after not being included in the Russia's final World Cup squad.
"Unfortunately the coach decided to not nominate me for the final World Cup squad. Of course I’m shocked and disappointed. I am 100% fit and was ready to give it all. All the best to the team and no injuries!" Neustaedter posted on his Twitter feed.
On Sunday, the Russian Football Union announced the final 23-man squad for the upcoming World Cup with the 38-year-old veteran defender Sergei Ignashevich included. Goalkeeper Soslan Dzhanayev, defenders Neustaedter and Konstantin Rausch, 23-year-old midfielder Aleksandr Tashayev and 20-year-old forward Fedor Chalov all missed out.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held between June 14 and July 15 at 12 stadiums across 11 Russian cities. Russia will face Saudi Arabia in Moscow on June 14, will play Egypt in St. Petersburg on June 19 and take on Uruguay in Samara on June 25.
