MOSCOW, June 3 (Sputnik) - Former Russia head coach Boris Ignatyev told Sputnik Sunday that CSKA Moscow striker Fyodor Chalov and Dynamo Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Tashayev could have been included in Russia’s final 23-man squad ‘with an eye on the future'.
The pair missed out as head coach Stanislav Cherchesov named Russia's 23-man final World Cup squad earlier on Sunday. Goalkeeper Soslan Dzhanayev and defenders Roman Neustadter and Konstantin Rausch were also not selected.
"As for me, the choice for the final 2018 World Cup squad is quite fair. I think, Stanislav Cherchesov [Russia's head coach] was right. From my point of view, I would have included Chalov and Tashayev in the 23-man squad with an eye on the future, so that they prepare for future tournaments... Given the current squad, they [Chalov and Tashayev] would have been on the bench," Ignatyev said.
Russia will host its first World Cup from June 14 to July 15. The fixtures will be played at 12 stadiums across 11 cities.
Russia will face Egypt, Saudi Arabiain Group A.
