NEUSTIFT IM STUBAITAL (Austria), May 25 (Sputnik) - Zenit St. Petersburg and Russia midfielder Aleksandr Yerokhin said on Friday that he has put his club season to the back of his mind and is fully focusing on the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Yerokhin was named in head coach Stanislav Cherchesov's preliminary World Cup squad on May 11.
"Even the warm-up exercises are designed in order to prepare us for certain types of opponents that we will come up against and how the coaches want us to move on and off the ball... I have already put my club to the back of my mind. I had a few days off and now I am training with a lot of intensity. I am only thinking about the national team,” Yerokhin told journalists.
The 28-year-old has made 17 appearances for Russia since he made international debut in 2016 and has yet to score a goal.
The Russian squad is training in the Austrian town of Neustift ahead of a friendly with Austria in Innsbruck on May 30, and will head back to Russia on May 31.
Russia will host its first World Cup from June 14 to July 15. The fixtures will be played at 12 stadiums across 11 cities.
