The exhibition focuses on the evolution and the diversity of stadiums, arenas and other multifunctional sports buildings, which were built during the architectural modernism era.

"I am happy to welcome you to the exhibition dedicated to the history of construction of stadiums and mass sports arenas … I hope that the exhibition will be interesting for a wide range of people," the director of the museum Elizaveta Likhacheva said.

The exhibition consists of architectural drawings and photos of sports buildings located in Russia and the former Soviet Union, which include the legendary Dynamo Moscow stadium, the Luzhniki Sports Complex, St. Petersburg’s Kirov Stadium, as well as arenas in Minsk, Yerevan, Kiev and other cities.

"We studied ideas which were born at different stages of the formation and development of architecture during the 20th century," the curator of the exhibition, Mark Akopyan, said.

Russia will host its first FIFA World Cup from June 14 till July 15, with Moscow’s 81,000-seater Luzhniki Stadium set to host seven games, including the opening match and the final, and the 45,000-seater Spartak Stadium set to host a total of five games.
