IT was another tight weekend in the Hyundai A-League with Central Coast Mariners the only clear winners – in every sense.
A brace of dazzling goals from Nik Mrdja and a cracker from Adam Kwasnik sealed all three points for the Mariners against Wellington Phoenix.
The result gave them back to back wins and a 100 percent record this season, putting them an impressive four points clear at the top of the ladder already and relegating Phoenix to cellar dweller status.

Sydney seemed to have finally got off the mark when a breathtaking pass from Juninho opened up the box for Alex Brosque who took his chance beautifully to score what looked like a winner.
But a horrific mix-up in defence gifted Adelaide United an equaliser, locking the scores at 2-2, and only moving Sydney just above Phoenix at the bottom of the ladder.

It was a tense affair at the Telstra Dome where Melbourne Victory continued their sluggish start to the season with a stalemate scoreless draw against Perth Glory.
Neither side could find a breakthrough, with Perth’s defence snuffing out any Victory attack to keep their second cleansheet in a row. Sadly it was also their second game without scoring.

They were two of five teams all locked on two points on the ladder after two rounds, sharing that honour with Adelaide, and Newcastle Jets and Queensland Roar.
For the second game in a row, Roar lost their skipper to a red card. It was Socceroo Craig Moore last week and stand-in skipper Stuart McLaren this week.
Roar looked to be taking home a win courtesy of Reinaldo until the sending-off gave the Jets a freekick on the edge of the box – and Joel Griffiths curled it home superbly, stealing a share of the points at the death.

Unless any other club can find the killer touch to win their games, the Mariners are already in the driving seat to coast home with the championship this season.
