A CLASH between two teams cruising along in finals spots will be the week’s most anticipated as Central Coast Mariners and Gold Coast United go into battle at Bluetongue Stadium.
The third and fourth-placed teams have played second fiddle to Brisbane and Adelaide, but both are comfortably entrenched in the top six.
While the Mariners are yet to lose at home, United are unbeaten on the road adding another level of intrigue to the blockbuster.
Gold Coast’s organization at the back has led to the team not conceding in the final half hour of any game so far this season.
Mariners boss Graham Arnold will be confident after his team’s win at Wellington in week 14 and a draw in Melbourne mid-week with his team victorious on six of seven occasions they have led at the interval.
Table-topping Brisbane Roar welcome North Queensland Fury to Suncorp Stadium in the local derby.
It may well be an action-packed final quarter of an hour between these two teams, both of whom have scored seven goals after the 76th minute this season.
Roar are also the most dominant team from corners, finding the net four times.
Melbourne Heart host second-placed Adelaide United at AAMI Park on Friday night. United won a 3-2 thriller when these two teams last met, but this game will mark their first visit to the new venue.
Wellington travel to a revitalized Newcastle less than a week after questions were raised over the club’s future.
The club was forced to come out and deny its financial future was of concern with reports of owner Terry Serepisos being investigated by New Zealand’s tax department.
Whether it has any effect on Phoenix remains to be seen as they visit EnergyAustralia Stadium, a venue at which 18 goals have been scored in five meetings between the two teams.
Wellington are the fastest starting team in the league while the Jets have conceded more than half of their goals in the final half hour.
Sydney FC host a rare game at Parramatta Stadium when Perth Glory visit. Glory will be glad not to be returning to the scene of arguably its lowest point of the season, a 5-0 loss at the hands of Central Coast Mariners at Sydney Football Stadium.
Glory recorded a much-needed win at home to Melbourne Victory last week but time is running out for both teams if they are to have any chance of making a run for a finals spot so three points are a must.
