It’s official. Every A-League team will appear in EA Sports’ new FIFA 08 game, the FFA and EA Sports have confirmed.
au.fourfourtwo.com can today end speculation and reveal the new FIFA 08 game will feature all eight A-League teams in the series' new version.
The A-League is one of three new leagues confirmed for FIFA 08 and will debut alongside the Irish Eircom League and the Czech Gambrinus League, taking the game's total number of leagues to 30.
This means you’ll be able to take your favourite team and pit them against any side in the world including world giants such as Barcelona, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.
“This is the first time that the Hyundai A-League will feature in an official EA Sports videogame," said FFA CEO Ben Buckley.
"More than 20 million people globally will be directly exposed to A-League clubs and players during the next 12 months through the FIFA 08 product."
Socceroo and Melbourne Victory striker Archie Thompson will be the face of FIFA O8 in Australia, featuring heavily in the promotional campaign for the game.
“This is another example of the level of corporate interest in the Hyundai A-League and football in Australia at present and we look forward to working with EA in the future,” added Buckley.
Thompson said he was ecstatic about being named the FIFA 08 ambassador for Australia and New Zealand.
“I know that plenty of the boys at Melbourne Victory - and the Qantas Socceroos, when we are in camp - enjoy playing video games," he said.
"It’s fantastic that we can now play as our favourite A-League club either in a league or against other international clubs.
“As I’m a big kid at heart, it’s great to feature in a game that I enjoy playing myself."
EA Sports have undertaken extensive research to accurately capture the skills/abilities and traits of A-League players.
FIFA 08 will be available for purchase from September 27, 2007 to coincide with the worldwide release of the game, but no A-League player will feature on the cover.
