ADELAIDE United will come up against five A-League clubs in a pre-season schedule aimed at getting the Reds fighting fit for their tough Champions League and domestic league campaigns.
The Reds will take on reigning A-League champions Brisbane Roar, Premiers Plate winners Central Coast Mariners as well as Melbourne Victory, Melbourne Heart and Sydney FC in the lead up to the first leg of their ACL quarter final clash against Uzbek giants Bunyodkur on September 19 at Hindmarsh Stadium.
A match against local club Adelaide Comets on August 1 will serve as a springboard for the ensuing hit outs, which will also include a friendly against a South Australian state team.
The demanding schedule means the Reds will have a month of highly competitive match practice before facing off against a tough Uzbek side in the last eight of Asia’s prestigious club competition.
Adelaide United Football Director Michael Petrillo was full of praise for the pre-season fixtures put together by coach John Kosmina.
“It’s vital that the team is able to get not only enough game time leading up to the first leg at Hindmarsh but also that the level of competition is intense,” Petrillo said.
“There is a good balance between the two in our lead up games. Kossie has put a very thorough pre-season program in place and with two of the best teams in the A-League in Brisbane and the Mariners rounding off our preparations, we should be in great shape come September 19.”
