Adelaide United FC’s National Youth League squad is beginning to take shape with Coach Joe Mullen announcing The Reds’ first signings for the inaugural Youth League competition.
Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) duo Matthew Mullen and Alex Sunasky have been named in the squad along with Joel Allwright and Michael Marrone, who both currently play with local Super League club Para Hills.
A member of United’s squad in 2007/08, Matthew Mullen rejoins the club after being released back to the AIS program, the Qantas Young Socceroos member sure to be an integral part of The Reds’ Youth Team setup.
Joe Mullen is expected to finalise the remaining eight spots in the coming weeks ahead of the competition, which kicks off on September 26.
National Youth League players can be between 16-21 years of age, the aim of the competition to develop and nurture local talent in a professional environment and provide a pathway for these players into the Hyundai A-League.
The Reds’ opening match of the National Youth League is on Saturday, September 27 against Newcastle Jets at Hindmarsh Stadium and will be played as a curtain raiser to the Hyundai A-League match between the two clubs.
