ADELAIDE United's marquee striker Paul Agostino has shaken off a groin injury and will be fit to face Perth Glory in the club's A-League opener on Sunday.
United coach Aurelio Vidmar says Agostino could play a role against the Glory having fully recovered from the minor injury, which kept him out of The Reds’ final two Pre-Season Cup matches.
He said: “Ago is doing very well. It was just a little niggle so he should pull up fine.
“He has come through a reasonably tough pre season and with the opening game of the season on Sunday, he could definitely play a part.”
It has been a frustrating time for Agostino since he started with The Reds, persistent injuries allowing him to make just 10 appearances in the Hyundai A-League 2007/8 season. But despite the limited game time, the 32 year-old managed to score four goals last year.
“It’s fantastic for Ago to be part of the group again and we look forward to him having a solid game on Sunday.
“Understanding the setbacks that he’s had, it will be beneficial to Paul and the club that he gets through the game without any problems," said Vidmar.
The former Socceroos striker started in United’s opening match of the 2008 Pre-Season Cup against Melbourne Victory, however he came off in the second half after feeling some slight soreness.
