Queensland Roar’s Hyuk-Su Seo will miss this weekend's pre-season Cup clash because the two-flight trip is too gruelling for him.
The influential midfielder has been left behind in Brisbane while the rest of the squad heads for chilled Orange ahead of the Pre-Season Cup clash with Central Coast Mariners.
At least David Beckham will be able to offer a sympathetic ear, with air travel also responsible for throwing his long-awaited LA Galaxy debut into doubt.
Becks’ injury was aggravated by the switch from Spain to California (air travel causes swelling) and a promotional trip this week was also thrown into doubt because it involved flying.
As for the Roar, the trip from Suncorp to Orange venue involves two flights and it has been decided that it is a jet too far for the Korean.
Coach Frank Farina said: “It’s a precautionary thing with Hyuk-Su. Orange is an unusual trip in that there are two flights to catch.
“Ascending and descending twice in one day is not great for the body as it can cause swelling. Plus, we expect conditions in Orange to be a bit cold to say the least, so we’re leaving him behind this time. He’ll be fine for New Zealand next week.”
Farina will also be without Marcinho (groin) but the Brazilian should also be in line for a return next week against Wellington Phoenix.
Another member of the Roar crocks club is also making steps along the road to recovery.
Robbie Kruse, who suffered a severe facial injury at training last week, has undergone successful surgery to repair his fractured cheekbone and eye-socket.
Roar physio Tony Ganter said: “Robbie’s surgery went well and he had a titanium plate inserted into his face just to reinforce the bone and hold everything together.
“It’s not much thicker than a photograph so shouldn’t bother him at all. He’ll be right to get back into it in about six weeks so it’s all gone pretty well.”
