The first half of the game saw few chances until Al Jazira opened the scoring when Ibrahima Diaky sent a neat pass to Abdulsalam Juma who fired a powerful shot from 20 yards out past Al Shabab goalkeeper Salem Abdulla.

However, Al Shabab levelled the scores after 70 minutes when Christiano Pedrao received a pass from Issa Obaid before the Brazilian striker fired a powerful shot from just outside the area.

But Al Jazira secured the three points from the game five minutes before the end when Subait Khater fired a powerful free-kick which flew into the net.

The other game on the night saw six goals as Al Dhafra registered a big 4-2 win against Ajman.

Ajman took an early lead on the night when Ibrahim Saif sent a cross which was followed by Jassim Ali from a close range after only seven minutes of the match.

However, Al Dhafra levelled the scores through their Bahrain international midfielder Mohamad Salmeen who headed home a corner from Mohamad Salem after 22 minutes just eight minutes before Abdulla Faraj gave the lead for Al Dhafra with a strong shot.

Nigerian striker Abas Mowiwa Lawal scored the third goal for Al Dhafra after heading home a cross from Khairi Khalfan on 37 minutes just three minutes before Ajman were reduced to 10 men as Ahmed Ali received his second yellow on the night.

Lawal scored his second goal of the night and the fourth for Al Dhafra when he headed home a cross from his compatriot Kenneth Ikwugbado just five minutes into the second half.

Ajman reduced the deficit one minute later when Iranian striker Javad Kazemian followed a bounce ball past Al Dhafra goalkeeper to make it 4-2.

The opening round will continue on Saturday as Emirates face Al Sharjah and Al Wasl play against Bani Yas before it will be concluded on Monday when defending champions Al Ahli play against Al Wahda while Al Ain meet Al Nasr.
