Al Karama took a giant step towards retaining their Syrian League title after winning their rescheduled match against fellow AFC Champions League hopefuls Al Ittihad 1-0.
In front of a 35,000 sell-out crowd, Al Karama had the upper hand in the first half and could have opened the scoring in the 22nd minute but Naser Al Sebai's header was superbly saved by Al Ittihad keeper Mahmoud Karkar.
Senegalese striker Senghor Koupouleni did make the breakthrough, however, 17 minutes into the second half when he headed home.
Al Karama are now five points clear of Al Ittihad at the top of the table and need a win from one of their two remaining games to claim the trophy.
