Al Wahda returned to the top of the UAE league following their 2-1 victory against Al Sharjah on Sunday.
Al Wahda, who are also the leaders of Group A of the AFC Champions League, took the lead after only two minutes when Saeed Salem headed home an Haidar Alo Ali free-kick.
Al Sharjah took advantage of a slip from Al Wahda goalkeeper Shaiban Saleh who dropped a long ball and Rashed Abdullah put the ball into an empty net to level the scores in the 31st minute.
However, Al Wahda scored the winning goal in the second half when Mohammed Al Shehie was the first to reach a loose ball after a powerful strike from Mauro Maurito to give his side the three points.
Al Wahda are now at the top of the standings, just one point ahead of Al Wasl.
Al Wasl, who will be playing in next year's ACL after beating Al Ain in the final of the UAE President's Cup last month, were the better side in Sunday`s goalless meeting of the sides.
They nearly sealed the win a minute before the end when Brazilian striker Oliveira saw his powerful header bounce off the left upright.
