“We haven't lost yet this season but we can still can improve,” the striker told au.fourfourtwo.com.

“We're still finding our feet, which is taking a bit of time, but there is a good mood with two wins in a row and we have a bit of momentum.”

Allsopp, 29, scored on Saturday night to defeat bitter rivals Sydney FC 1-0. And the forward insists he did not mis-kick his 81st minute winner as some have reported.

“The ball was out on the left and I think it was Caceres who put in a great delivery. It came over everyone and I'd made a latish run on the angle side unmarked.

“I hit it pretty well. I wasn't a mis-hit. It went into the ground and over Clint [Bolton]”

The win in the harbour city has propelled Victory into second spot on the A-League ladder. The reigning premiers are now one win off top spot, held by Central Coast.

“It's been a difficult few weeks. But credit to Sydney, they dug in but after the send-off we were desperate to break them down,” added Allsopp, who played despite still suffering from a rib injury.

As for the controversial first half red card to Steve Corica, Allsopp wasn't able to comment as he says he was unsighted.

“We started off well when it was 11 v 11 and had an upper hand when they went down to ten'" he said. "They didn't really attack after that.”

Allsopp added that the traveling 500 or so Victory fans made a big difference: “They were fantastic, it was such good support.”

He added: “Obviously we're not that popular in Sydney so it's a big help”.

The win in Sydney gives Ernie Merrick's men a boost ahead of its second big match in as many weeks in Adelaide this Friday night.
